Leaving the serene coastline of Sihanoukville, we were all set for a fresh adventure—this time, to the bustling capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. Known for its rich history, cultural landmarks, and city life, Phnom Penh was just a few hours away, and we decided to make the journey by road. Taking a bus from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh sounded like a great way to sit back, relax, and soak in the scenery. Our choice? The highly recommended Larryta bus service.

The Larryta Bus Experience

Our journey began early in the morning from Sihanoukville. Larryta is known among travelers for offering reliable transportation across Cambodia, especially between major cities. From the start, it was easy to see why this company is a favorite.

Booking our tickets through redBus was seamless, and we received confirmation via email almost instantly. At the Larryta bus station, staff members were polite and helpful, assisting with luggage and guiding us toward the correct bus. What stood out immediately was how organized everything was—no chaotic queues or confusion.

We boarded a modern mini-bus with comfortable seating and air-conditioning, which was a big relief in Cambodia’s tropical heat. The departure was on time, which we really appreciated.

Comfort, Stops, and Roadside Bites

The bus from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh took approximately 5.5 hours, with one scheduled rest stop halfway through the journey. Larryta Express has done a great job balancing speed and comfort. The bus didn’t feel rushed, nor were there unnecessary delays.

The seats were wide enough, with decent legroom for a mini-bus. While it wasn’t a luxury sleeper bus, it offered just the right level of comfort for a daytime ride. USB charging ports were available for each seat, so we kept our phones charged for pictures and navigation.

At the rest stop, we found a clean restroom facility and a small eatery offering local snacks. We grabbed iced coffee, fresh spring rolls, and a few pastries to enjoy during the remainder of our ride. If you’re someone who prefers bringing snacks, Larryta allows light food and drinks onboard, making it even more convenient.

The route itself was scenic. We passed stretches of open countryside, rice fields, and occasional villages. The view from the window made the ride feel more like a moving tour of Cambodia’s rural life.

Arriving in Phnom Penh – From Calm to Chaos

Reaching Phnom Penh felt like crossing into a whole new world. The transition from the quiet, beachy vibes of Sihanoukville to the urban buzz of the capital was instantly noticeable. Tuk-tuks zipped through the streets, roadside vendors were busy serving locals, and high-rise buildings mingled with colonial architecture.

Larryta dropped us at their central drop-off point in Phnom Penh, which was conveniently located and surrounded by cafes, guesthouses, and public transport options. This made getting to our hotel quite easy.

Once we settled in, we stepped out to explore the heart of Phnom Penh. From the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom to riverside walks along the Mekong, the city offered a vibrant mix of history, culture, and energy.
