The New York Giants are 1-8 and have the worst record in the NFL. They need to make a change, but what? Joe Judge, who is an analyst for ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown show, made some bizarre comments about Bill Gates and analytics during his broadcast on Monday night.
Joe Judge, a former NFL player for the New York Giants, made some bizarre comments about Bill Gates and analytics. These comments prove that the New York Giants need to make a drastic change in order to succeed in this year’s NFL season.
Joe Judge isn’t a competent head coach, which may seem harsh only three games into the 2021 NFL season.
Judge, the current head coach of the New York Giants, struggled to a six-win season in 2020 and is now 0-3 heading into 2021. Poor quarterback performance, terrible play-calling, a weak offensive line, poorly coached special teams units, and a wildly inconsistent defense are among their problems. Moving ahead, the Giants will have one of the toughest schedules in the league, and things aren’t going to get any easier anytime soon.
To make things worse, Judge (who is at least somewhat to blame for the Giants’ recent failings) does not seem to be eager to change.

Coaching football is mainly a “feel” thing, for better or worse. Some of the greatest coaching choices in NFL history were bad on paper but paid off thanks to a mix of dumb luck and player ability.
For example, the “Philly Special” during Super Bowl 52 is an excellent example of a head coach acting on instinct. While statistics may have indicated going for it on fourth down was the best option, it’s difficult to envision any stats-based program recommending a trick play in which a backup tight end tosses the ball. Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles, on the other hand, were rewarded for their choice, and the play is now legendary.
That isn’t to say that analytics isn’t a powerful tool in the contemporary NFL.
To impact gameday choices and roster changes, most (if not all) strong teams extensively depend on analytics and stats-based models. Probability, athletic scores, and other factors are all extensively utilized in the NFL to make choices on a regular basis.

As previously mentioned, the Giants are now dealing with a slew of problems. The majority of them can be linked back to the team’s below-average general manager, Dave Gettleman, and the poor personnel decisions he’s made in recent seasons.
Judge’s decision-making and the Giants’ general play-calling, on the other hand, are unquestionably among the best in the league.
The Giants are 18th in total offense, 17th in first downs, 17th in scoring %, and 18th in projected points produced by the offense heading into Week 4. Across the board, they’re below average.
Using statistics, whether Judge wants to believe it or not, can only help the Giants improve these stats. In nearly all of these offensive categories, the Los Angeles Rams, one of the most analytically aware teams in sports, rank top.
The Giants should think about making a significant change.

not at any time… not at any time of year…
OVER THE PREVIOUS FIVE YEARS
Have the Giants ever had a winning season?
not for even a week
With a 0-3 record right now, the earliest they might win is Week 7.
assuming they win all four games against the Saints, Cowboys, Rams, and Panthers

With Judge so out of touch with what is happening in the NFL these days, and the Giants off to such a bad start, one has to wonder how much longer this can go on.
When it comes to operating the team’s front office, Gettleman isn’t any better. If ownership is serious about rebuilding their company into a contender, they must consider totally cleansing house.
