In difficult circumstances, extreme methods are required. That milestone has been achieved by the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox are one game away from elimination in the American League Championship Series after losing two straight at Fenway Park. They trail the Houston Astros 3-2. It’s past time for Kike Hernandez to take the lead. He’s already had an impact on the field in the playoffs, but now he has to raise the ante and revive the rally banana.
For the Red Sox, Kike Hernandez has been a playoff hero.

Hernandez is 19-for-41 in the playoffs following a 0-for-4 effort Wednesday night in Game 5 of the series with the Astros. Hernandez hit a pair of solo home runs, added a double and a single, and made some spectacular outfield catches in Game 1, a 5-4 Red Sox defeat.
Hernandez got 13 hits in four games, which was a playoff record for the most hits in a four-game span. According to Boston.com, he joined Reggie Jackson as the only players in the playoffs to hit 29 total bases in a four-game span.
“I’m really enjoying myself,” Hernández remarked. “It’s a lot of fun. It’s October, and these games are always a blast. There was a lot of adrenaline in the room. There was a lot of energy in the audience. The fact that I’m doing well adds a little to it.”
Chris Sale of the Boston Red Sox stated, “He’s been amazing.” “He’s been a person we’ve been able to rely on.” And I believe he likes it. I believe he does some rolling about in there. It’s also entertaining to see.”
The rally banana must be used by Kike Hernandez.

The rally banana was born in 2015, while Hernandez was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. The banana incident occurred recently, and it aided the Dodgers in breaking out of an offensive funk.
On May 22, 2015, LA was 24–16, but they hadn’t scored in 35 innings. Something has to be done. Hernandez glanced around the dugout for anything to light a fire under him. With a banana, he took a shot.
“I told myself, ‘I’m on the bench, I’ve got to assist my team in some way, we’ve got to come up with something,’” she added. According to MLB.com, Hernandez said. “So I take a look around, and the first thing I notice is a banana, and I think to myself, ‘This banana will be a rally banana.’”
Change was quick with the banana in hand, as Andre Ethier drove in a run with a double. Joc Pederson hit a game-winning home run after the Padres knotted the game. Four of the following five games were won by the Dodgers.
“You can call it a rally banana or you can call it a coincidence,” Hernandez remarked.
The rally banana took an unexpected turn when Hernandez was injured that season. Hernandez became the banana after being sidelined due to a hamstring ailment. On Aug. 31, 2015, during an extra-inning game against the rival San Francisco Giants, Hernandez appeared in a banana costume and was photographed.
In 14 innings, the Dodgers defeated the Giants 5-4.
In Game 6, the Red Sox might utilize Hernandez’s rally banana.
In the American League Division Series, Hernandez and the Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays had the best record in the American League, but it didn’t stop the Sox from winning the series in four games.
The Red Sox’s offense was on fire early in the ALCS series against the Astros. Following a 5-4 defeat in Game 1 of the series, Boston scored nine runs in Game 2 to win 9-5. To grab an early lead, the Sox hit grand homers in each of the first two innings.
With a 12-run explosion in Game 3, Boston maintained its offensive assault. As the Red Sox triumphed 12-3 and took a 2-1 series lead, Kyle Schwarber added another grand slam to his resume.
Boston has lost two consecutive games since then and is one game away from being eliminated when they travel to Houston for Game 6 on Friday.
The Red Sox need to break out of their offensive funk, and there’s no better way to do it than by bringing back the rally banana.
