The 76ers have been struggling with their trade value for years, and they’re finally ready to make a move. But the problem is that Ben Simmons doesn’t want to be traded.
The Philadelphia Eagles have been struggling this season. They’ve had a lot of injuries and they’re not doing well in the standings. Ben Simmons is the latest player to come out and say that it’s not his job to fix his trade value. Read more in detail here: eagles news.
The Ben Simmons-Philadelphia 76ers saga continues to unfold. Now, the former franchise point guard has added fuel to the fire by telling Philadelphia that it’s “not his responsibility to repair his trade value.”
Daryl Morey, the general manager of the 76ers, has demanded a king’s ransom in exchange for the No. 1 overall selection in 2016. However, Morey’s asking price must be falling by the day Simmons stays with the club.
For the sake of both sides, it’s time to cut hook and say goodbye, but the former LSU star has made things much more difficult (again).
Ben Simmons is said to have informed the Philadelphia 76ers that it is not his duty to “increase his trade worth.”
NBA analyst Brian Windhorst stated on ESPN’s The Jump that he “seriously doubts” Simmons and the 76ers can mend their relationship:
“One of the signals Ben has given back to Philly is that fixing his trade value is not his responsibility. It is not his responsibility to repair or increase his trade value.”
Bleacher Report quotes ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on the Ben Simmons-Philadelphia 76ers issue.
Simmons has recently told the organization that if he is still with the club, he would not report to training camp. Every message sent forth by the 6-foot-10 playmaker contradicts the previous one.
This wouldn’t have been a problem if Simmons had showed up in the 2021 playoffs.

Morey allegedly offered Simmons to the Houston Rockets in a deal that would have brought James Harden back to Philadelphia before the 2020-21 season. When Simmons found out about the transaction, the breakdown between the two parties most likely started then.
However, the 2017-18 NBA Rookie of the Year was a no-show in last year’s playoffs, when the team was expected to win. In Game 7 of the Eastern Conference playoffs, the two-time All-NBA defensive player missed a wide-open dunk as the Sixers fell to the Atlanta Hawks.
The hardest portion of Simmons’ postseason journey, though, was yet to come.
In the fourth quarter of a seven-game series, a former No. 1 overall selection and a putative franchise cornerstone shot three times. Three field-goal attempts in seven fourth quarters. On more over six attempts a game, Simmons also shot a career-low 34.2 percent from the free-throw line.
This discussion may not have taken place if the three-time all-star had showed up at all in the playoffs. Simmons’ connection with the 76ers, on the other hand, is officially and totally shattered.
It is Simmons’ responsibility to enhance his trade worth, yet he continues to do exactly the opposite.
Simmons is a basketball player in the NBA. Even if he wanted out of Philly anyhow, his trade value wouldn’t need to be fixed if he played professional basketball well. However, he went missing throughout last season’s playoffs, and his value as an asset plummeted dramatically.
Simmons’ résumé reads like that of an NBA superstar:
- In 2017-18, he was named Rookie of the Year.
- In 2019-20, he was named to the NBA All-Star team.
- First-team All-Defense in 2019-20 and 2020-21
- All-Star three times
Teams should be ecstatic at the prospect of acquiring a playmaker and defender of his quality based on those achievements alone. Simmons, on the other hand, vanished at the worst possible moment, hasn’t improved his offensive game, and thinks it’s someone else’s responsibility to boost his trade worth.
Simmons, who was once the team’s franchise player, continues to put Philadelphia in a jam. However, it seems like it is the Sixers’ duty to make him look better so that they can negotiate a better contract. Every day, the situation becomes more absurd.
