The Philadelphia Eagles have reached a fork in the road.
On the one hand, they have Jalen Hurts, a rookie quarterback, and three first-round choices in the summer. The temptation to use all three selections to surround Hurts with talent is strong. The Eagles, on the other hand, might have three first-round selections this summer, which is plenty of ammo to spend on a proven franchise quarterback.
According to recent rumors, the Eagles have discreetly decided which route they want to go in.

On a recent episode of The Adam Schefter Podcast, Schefter asked NFL insider Chris Mortensen about the prospect of major quarterback moves starting this summer. There is expected to be a lot of quarterback shuffle this spring between Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, Russell Wilson, and maybe Derek Carr.
Mortensen instantly moved his focus to the Eagles when Schefter mentioned Wilson’s name.
…the Eagles have a storied history of first-round draft choices, and there’s little doubt that Russell Wilson would be at the top of their list. And, as you know, and as you may have originally reported, when Russell Wilson was selected in the second round of the [2012] draft, Andy Reid was the coach, Howie Roseman was undoubtedly in the front office, and Russell Wilson was a player the Eagles considered choosing in the second round.
Jalen is someone I know, and I’m hoping he’s the one, but they’re not sure yet. He has the rest of the year to persuade them, to persuade them that he is the right person for the job. And, let’s face it, you eventually reach the point where you say, “Hey, listen, we feel Rusell Wilson is a potential Hall of Famer who is still in his peak.” So, if you get the opportunity to obtain that sort of guy, you take it.

Mortensen doesn’t leave much to the imagination in this scene. If Wilson becomes available this summer, Wilson feels the Eagles (who have three first-round selections) would be first in line to sign him.
For both sides, this is a reasonable transaction.

On paper, blockbuster quarterback deals usually seem implausible. This is, however, a case in which a transaction makes sense for both sides. Wilson has been linked to trade speculations since 2019, and the Eagles have a history of being impatient.
Even though it makes more sense to use their first-round selections to improve the club’s depth, Philadelphia is the sort of team that will go all out to get a franchise quarterback. After all, they were one of the clubs who spent the summer researching Deshaun Watson and his circumstances.
Howie Roseman, the Eagles’ general manager, toyed with the possibility of picking Wilson in 2012. Since then, he’s been hating himself for losing out on Wilson. It’s logical to believe he’d leap at the chance to make amends a decade later.
If the Seattle Seahawks want to rebuild properly, they will need draft capital in the future. They put themselves in a bind by dealing two first-round picks for Jamal Adams, a safety. One method to recuperate such assets is to trade Wilson.
This move would send the Eagles in a completely different path.
Landing Wilson, in theory, would be a fantastic result for the Eagles. However, it has a significant impact on the franchise’s future trajectory. They would be unable to continue their reconstruction efforts. They’d have to go all-in on Wilson’s last outstanding seasons.
DeVonta Smith and Landon Dickerson, two recent draft selections, would have to grow quickly into top players, and the Eagles would need to add numerous difference-makers on both sides of the ball. This offseason, the Eagles’ linebacker room, for example, has to be revamped.
Are the Eagles in a position to challenge for a Super Bowl title right away? No, most likely not. They wouldn’t have a choice if Wilson was purchased in any way. You don’t give up three first-round selections for a future Hall of Fame quarterback to be average.
