Jamal Crawford, a 15-year NBA veteran and the second leading scorer in league history, has teased returning to the NBA with a recent tweet. The 34-year-old is currently playing for the Atlanta Hawks, but he hasn’t ruled out returning to his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers.
Jamal Crawford is a basketball legend who has been playing in the NBA for years. He recently tweeted that he was returning to the NBA and that he would be playing for the Lakers.
Jamal Crawford is one of the most beloved “roleplayers” in NBA history, despite never winning an MVP award or being selected an All-Star. Crawford is the master of converting pick-up techniques to the NBA. He is a high-scoring point guard/shooting guard hybrid who can drop 30-plus points at any time.
On any given afternoon, his highlights may be seen floating on Twitter.
Jamal Crawford was the human equivalent of a highlight reel.
Crawford played for nine different clubs in the NBA during the course of his 20-year career. He epitomizes what it means to be a journeyman in professional sports, continually moving about throughout the summer. Crawford had success with most of the clubs he played for throughout his career, but the Los Angeles Clippers were probably his best.
Crawford was a part of the legendary “Lob City” Clippers squad, which included Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan. During his five-year Clippers tenure, the flamboyant guard averaged 15.3 points per game and earned two Sixth Man of the Year honors.
Crawford’s influence on this squad propelled him into the national limelight on a regular basis. Many NBA fans tuned in to the Lob City Clippers games mainly to watch what antics Crawford would pull off as a substitute.
Crawford earned the NBA’s “Teammate of the Year” title in 2018 and another Sixth Man of the Year honor in 2010.

Crawford hasn’t played in an NBA game since 2020, but he hasn’t officially retired. In fact, all indications lean to the veteran guard returning sooner rather than later.
Crawford organizes a “pro-am” (professional-amateur) summer basketball league in Seattle called “The Crawsover,” which he still plays in on a regular basis. It’s one of the most prominent pro-am leagues (albeit some aren’t that competitive). Crawford seems to be holding his own against players like Kevin Durant and Chris Paul, who have competed in previous tournaments.
Crawford is still in good condition and plays basketball on a daily basis, and his latest social media activity just adds to the evidence that he isn’t done with the NBA.
Jamal Crawford has been hinting a comeback to the NBA for quite some time now.
Crawford has teased a return to action before, and he isn’t about to stop now. The 20-year veteran didn’t say directly that he wants to return to professional basketball, but the veiled reference to his present abilities is a strong indicator.
Crawford informed “NetsDaily” in April that he approached a couple clubs about 10-day contracts for the 2020-21 season. Over the last several months, he’s certainly considered returning to the NBA. With free agency beginning and clubs around the league on the lookout for bench depth, it’s fair to believe he’s still in talks with potential suitors.
Why not add Crawford to the mix? The Los Angeles Lakers recently worked out veteran point guards Darren Collison and Isaiah Thomas.
